Cher, Haunted

Image
I’ve watched almost if not all of the episode of Celebrity Ghost Stories . Some of the stories are from famous people that are well know and others that are less well known. Some of the stories I’ve watched were entire bores while many are ones I like watching over and over again. In the end, it goes to show that the paranormal touches people from all walks of life. Nonetheless, one celebrity that I haven’t seen on the show is singer, song-write and actress Cher (born: Cherilyn Sarkisian). Cher is said to be a “hard core believer”. When asked if she was afraid of ghosts on Reddit , she replied she believes that the ghost of her late ex-husband and former mayor of Palm Springs, CA, Sonny Bono, plays pranks on her. “…Absolutely not!!! I love ghosts. I actually think that Sonny makes a light go on. I have a beautiful chandelier that he makes the light go on when it is impossible, there is no power on. I love ghosts, I prefer ghosts to some people…” Since this story is out, I doubt t

Just Say “No!” to Ouija - Part 4

[ The following story is a first-hand, cautionary account about the Ouija board and does not promote it’s casual use. It is NOT a game. It is NOT a toy. If you decide to use the board, please take spiritual precautions such as saying a prayer before use. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! All names are fictitious to protect the identities of those mentioned in the story. ] Within a few weeks of using the board , we had already noticed odd goings-around. We had contacted several spirits, but the one we happened to encounter the most was a Filipino nanny of sorts who we called “Ya-Ya”. We knew that just invoking her name brought us some sort of “bad luck”. My cousin who didn’t actively participate in our sessions came down with a case of sudden fatigue believed to have been brought on after seeing a shadow person. But, we weren’t expecting what was yet to come. My Aunts Have an Accident While we spent the after resting from berry picking, my aunt Pat and my aunt Lena went to downtown Port Orchar

Pat Robertson –“I would burn the house down and move on”

Image
Pat Robertson, the host (and spiritual leader) of the 700 Club , is noted from the many things that he has said on his show about non-Christians as “termites” and about Islam, Hinduism, feminism, abortion and homosexuality. But, his suggestion to a viewer’s pleas for help on how to deal with a haunting in her home is relevant for a post. “…I would burn the house down and move on…” In the show’s online Q&A segment, a woman tells Pat of the goings-on in her home: voices, electronics turning off and on on their own, psi phenomenon and apparitions. She asks what to do. Pat laughs and suggests to burn the house down! Pat continues on stating his disbelief in spirits of people who have past and that the Bible does not support such, but he asserts the existence of disembodied spirits such as demons and angels. He goes on to assess that the home owner has demons, instead. Oh, silly Pat! We don’t have a diamond mine so we can build another house. In the documentary, Mission Congo , it is

Their Cat Hisses at the Window

Image
Saw this in my Facebook stream. It is a captioned image from The Meta Picture . http://themetapicture.com/the-little-girl-on-the-window/ The caption is self-explanatory: A man takes a picture of the window that his cat is hissing at to find the ghostly image of a little girl once he uploaded the image onto his computer. I doesn’t look like the image had been edited. But, I’m skeptical. What are your thoughts? [UPDATE] A keen-eyed member of one the paranormal groups that I belong to on Facebook, has debunked the photo. He recognized the “little girl” from an iPhone app called “ Ghosts Don’t Exist ”. Fakes like this are “fun”, but they hurt paranormal investigators’ genuine efforts. I’ll keep in mind the images from the app that users can use when going over photos like the one above. Thank you, R. Sumner!

The Dream Catcher

Image
“…He heard the footsteps make their nightly path up the stairs. This time the footsteps stopped just short his door. Instead of following their usual route, he heard angry stomping and screaming as the footstep descended into the basement…” In the late 1990s, Wilmer moved into a duplex in Eastern Washington state with his friend and her daughter. “Just around the time when the movie ‘ The Blair Witch Project ’ hit the theaters,” he told me.   The first months after moving in were peaceful. But after two, he started to hear heavy footsteps, made by boots that only a man would wear, come from the basement. They would continue up to the first level and go further up to the upper floor where the bedrooms were. The footsteps would come up to his door, when it would open, and continue to the adjacent room where his roommate’s daughter slept.   At first he thought that his roommate was checking up on her daughter since her schedule had her wor

Aswang – Filipino Folklore

Image
I was introduced to the Filipino folk stories about the “aswang” when my cousins emigrated from the Philippines in the late 1980’s. They told of a creature that resembled a woman with bat wings who revealed her true self only at night. During the day, she could only “scoot” along edges of sidewalks to get around. When a woman lost a child, the townspeople would attributed it to an aswang who had a proboscis-like tongue to suck out the fetus. The following and very informative documentary goes into detail about the history and gathers information about this paranormal folk creature of the Philippines. Things I’ve learned: There is no consensus about the facts regarding the aswang. The aswang is a shape-shifter, so unexpected large animals (e.g. dogs, pigs, cats) can be aswangs in disguise. Some of the “facts” about the aswang have been shaped by historical events.

Birthday in Vegas

Image
It was my birthday trip to Las Vegas. The boyfriend and I settled into our hotel room at the Plaza Hotel at the far end of the Fremont Street in the heart of downtown. We were staying for the next 5 days. We went out for dinner, a few drinks and played some of the machines in the various casino-hotels nearby. We returned to the room well past midnight and went to bed. According to my boyfriend, he was bothered by the spirit of a woman the entire night. He tried to ignore her as much as he could but to no avail. The following morning, she continued to bother him and even poked him. He described her as mid-50’s with black hair standing at about 5’6”. She never spoke to him nor did she try to communicate with him or with me – “She just stood there,” he said matter-of-factly. When he told me about the third occupant of the room the following morning, I logged into my Facebook account and looked for a talisman that I used to keep wayward spirits away. I found it years ago reading Lillian

The Bedroom Door Rattles, a Face in the Window

Image
Evan had finally decided to move out of the house where he experienced many paranormal events. Jeb had taken down the last box to his car waiting on the sidewalk. Evan was alone in the house and closed the bedroom door. It began to rattle as if someone were trapped inside and trying to get out! Rattled himself, Evan reluctantly opened the door out of reluctant curiosity to find that the room was indeed empty. After closing the door once more and for the last time, it began to rattle followed by knocks and scratching. Not knowing how to cope, Evan picked up his phone and dialed whatever number he could! He told the friend that he dialed everything that had just happened. He’d told many of those on his contact list about the goings-on in the house and had solicited support. Although many of the event were unnerving he felt a bit more at ease that others believed him and that he was no longer going insane. The kind soul on the other line patiently listened while Evan told about th

I just want to thank all of you who have read my blog! Just today, it has breached the 4K-reader mark! THANK YOU!

Who is on the line, anyway?

Evan had never believed much in the existence of the paranormal until he moved into the house where he stayed for a few years in the Central district of Seattle. He had several experiences there from dancing Native Americans , to whirlwinds inside his own bedroom. This particular night was no exception. He was fast asleep when he was woken up by what he said was “…someone jumping on the bed.” He decided that it must have been his imagination, so he fell asleep. He was woken up again with the same, but this time he heard a voice tell him, “You are going to die.” He promptly got out of his bed and turned on the light to his room. Scared he called Jeb. Evan had never mentioned the experiences to Jeb, fearing that Jeb would think him insane. But, after having had shared experiences at the house, Jeb became the person he could turn to for support. After Evan finished telling Jeb about the latest episode of activity, Jeb tried his best to calm Evan down. As Evan’s mother had

Called Before Bed

Image
When you live most of your life hearing stories about the paranormal, you tend to think that because nothing like it has happened to you, you question the sanity of the people who tell them. Until the paranormal world contacts you… Jim lived with a roommate who was a believer of the paranormal. He had talked about his roommate’s experiences and the experiences of a few other friends who had run-ins with the “other” world. But, he, himself, had none. It was a Saturday night and Jim’s roommate was out on the town. He thought about going out, too, but he had work early Sunday morning, so he stayed in and watched TV. Around 2 AM, He decided that it was time for bed. He walked up the stairs. Once he reached the top, he went to the bathroom, and headed towards his bedroom. Just before he opened the door, he heard his name called from the top of the stairs only a few feet away. At first he thought it was his roommate coming up the stairs after being out all night. But, the voice wasn’t th

A Seventeen-year-old Girl Goes on Ghost Hunt, Experiences “Amling”

Image
Came across this video posted by +Amy Michelle in "The Paranormal" community in Google+. Dawn goes on a ghost hunt in Eastern State Penitentiary , the first of its kind in the US, and relates her experiences in the video below. At about 5:00 in the video, she talks about how a spirit attached to her. What she describes sounds very much like what the Ilocanos of the northern Philippine island of Luzon would call “amling” or “spiritual visitation”. From her description of what happened, she was, in my opinion, “naamlingan” or afflicted by a spirit. The Ilocanos have a ritual to alleviate the victim. Chanting, praying, burning of, inhaling and a rub-down with certain  tree leaves, seem to be common among the few accounts that I've managed to gather. A post with information about "amling" will be published in the future.

Early Winter Morning

Image
Winter in Seattle I interviewed Evan previously about his experiences while he shared a house in the Central district of Seattle a while back.  In his first account (“ The Dancing Trespassers ”), he encountered the paranormal history of the house. He witnessed a group of phantasmal Native Americans dancing around a tree in the front yard. After he told me about that encounter, he promised to tell me more because according to him, “there were many” at that house.   Here is another experience that Evan had at the same house. Because he did not witness the events alone, Evan felt some solace that he was not loosing his sanity.     All names are fictitious to protect the identities of those involved.   Winters in the Seattle a rarely severe compared to many northern cities in the US. On occasion it snows, but rarely. Usually if anything it snows no more than a few hours. The next day, it all melts. But, Wint

Ghostly Houseguests Engage In Dialogue / Ghost Box

Image
I just came across this from my Facebook feed from the “ Paranormal Network ”. Ghostly Houseguests Engage In Dialogue Excerpt: ” Phillip Brunelle of Boston, Massachusetts has long suspected his home of being haunted. Negative energy within the home has led him to suspect the presence of multiple spirit inhabitants, at least one of which having malevolent intentions. To explore his theory, Phillip uses a ghost box to communicate with the suspected spirits of his home…” A “ ghost box ” is a modified radio that scans AM and FM bands. Spirits or entities are said to be able to manipulate it so that certain words come through. Ovilus III http://theghosthunterstore.com/shop/new-ovilus-iii-pre-sale/ I’ve seen various ghost-hunting and paranormal shows such as SyFy’s Ghost Hunters or Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures use the device during investigations. The responses that they receive are sometimes “cute” and sometimes unnerving, sometimes single words or full sentences. I decid

The Basement Drain

Image
Sometime in the 1980’s Wilmer and his family were looking for a larger house to move into since his blended family there were already 12 children. They were able to find a house with enough space for them all, an old farm house built in the early 20th century in Pasco, WA. This is a story based on a friend’s experiences in his childhood home in eastern Washington state. House basements always seem to hold the darkest secrets and in this story, the center of the activity was near the drain.   When his family moved in, he and his brothers took the rooms in the half-finished basement. Half of the space was built into a few bedrooms. The other half was open and bare with a dirt floor. His older brothers took the finished rooms leaving Wilmer with the unfinished area with a drain. It was there in case the basement flooded. The house had settled since it was built, however, and the drain no longer was below the level of the basement floor. In fact, it stuck out as if wanting someone to stub

The Halloween Trespassers

Image
When I mentioned to a friend about this blog, he shared with me a few experiences that he had while he shared a house in the Central district of Seattle. The following is one of his experiences during his five-year stay. Before living at this house, Evan was a complete skeptic when it came to the topics of the paranormal. He believed that everyone who had a ghost story was trying to get attention. Since living at the house, he has become a believer in the paranormal. Last I heard he had moved out of that house several years ago. When I asked him to tell me one of his stories, he didn’t know where to begin because he had so many experiences. Because it was October at the time I asked, he decided to start with his first encounter. You could tell from the manner in which related the story that it was genuine. One night in October of 2009 Evan was in his bedroom when he heard someone wrapping on his window. He found it strange since his room was on the second floor! How could any o

Just Say “No!” to Ouija - Part 3

If you decide to use the board, please take spiritual precautions such as saying a prayer before use. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! All names are fictitious to protect the identities of those mentioned in the story. ] After contacting Ya-Ya we used the board less and less often. What we thought was fun and a curiosity at first start started to become serious. Yet, because of that same curiosity, we would ask Ya-Ya questions if something were to happen that we could not explain. One such reason was when one of the other cousins, who was not participating, came down with “something”. Background Although the Philippines is for the most part Christian and predominantly Catholic, each region’s animistic and shamanistic folk beliefs still continue until the present day. Aside from being religious, Filipinos tend to be very superstitious as well.

This is a continuation of those events. We make contact… We came in contact with several “spirits”, but none as memorable as what we found out was a female spirit named “Ya-Ya ___”. I’ve left out her name because after that summer, we agreed to never mention her complete name. Even as I write I’m a bit anxious. One night back at Auntie Pat’s, we were in the room Wilma shared with a couple of other female cousins of ours. We asked a few questions, again, they were typical of teen-agers. We never

On Having Consideration for Your Client

Image
As a card reader, or anyone who gives advice or guidance for that matter, you have to keep in mind that main focus during a reading is the person you are reading for, the client. I doesn't matter how trivial you think of the subject. You don’t matter! Your client is paying you to give them insight. If you don't keep that in mind, you tarnish your credibility and erode the trust with your client. They may even stop the reading or ask for their money back. What’s worse, they tell their friends about how awful you were. Keeping focus on the client’s concerns is especially crucial with a "cold" reading sessions. These are readings with clients that you have not read before – They are complete strangers. But, you run the gambit with new clients. They may never had a reading before. They might be scared or apprehensive – They don’t know what to expect. Or, they have had a reading once before. They might already have someone they go to regularly and they wanted to just g

They were staying at another aunt’s house in Port Orchard, Washington, where our Auntie Pat ran a berry farm. The early  part of the season was raspberry season, so my cousins and I would stay at Auntie Pat’s to pick berries. In addition, it was a good time to get to know Wilma. Previously, I had met Wilma briefly when they first immigrated to the US in the late 1980’s before
